SALHA offers professional development (CPE) courses designed for educators interested in incorporating living history and experiential learning into their classrooms. These courses provide guidance, resources, and hands-on activities to help teachers bring Texas history to life for their students.
CPE: Tejano Contributions to the Texas Revolution
This 8-hour CPE course provides educators with a dynamic, hands-on exploration of Tejano contributions to the Texas Revolution, emphasizing the significance of San Antonio during the conflict. The course integrates living history elements with a focus on material culture—artifacts, clothing, tools, and weapons—used by Tejanos and other figures involved in the Revolution. Certified Living History Educator (CLHE) Course
Bringing History to Life – In Classrooms and Communities
Class Dates: Each Fall 2025 class time will run 8:30-10:30 on the following dates: 9/6, 9/20, 10/11, 10/25, 11/01, 11/15, and 12/20. This way teachers will have their documentation for their Spring Evaluations.
Course Fee: The initial CLHE Course fee will be $75 for 6 hours of CPE course credit.

Certified Living History Educator (CLHE) Program
Bringing History to Life – In Classrooms and Communities
The Certified Living History Educator (CLHE) program, offered by the San Antonio Living History Association (SALHA), is a professional development and credentialing program designed for educators, museum interpreters, reenactors, and community historians who want to transform the way history is taught and experienced.
Through immersive training, participants learn how to deliver historically accurate, TEKS-aligned, and culturally inclusive presentations that engage audiences of all ages. The CLHE program blends research-based instructional strategies with the art of historical interpretation, ensuring participants leave with the skills, confidence, and resources to make the past meaningful and relevant.

- Museum educators and docents
- Living history reenactors and historical interpreters

The CLHE course consists of six instructional modules:
- Foundations of Living History Interpretation – The philosophy, purpose, and impact of immersive history.
